Recalls and warranties
Check for safety recalls with NHTSA straight from your phone, mark them done, and keep track of your warranties.
Recalls
A recall is a safety campaign from the manufacturer, published by NHTSA, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The fix is usually free at a dealer.
Check for recalls
Open the vehicle and tap Recalls, then Check now. Carlore asks NHTSA's free public recall service directly from your phone, with the year, make and model, and the VIN where NHTSA supports it. Nothing goes through Carlore's servers.
You'll see the result and the date, like "Checked Sep 20 · none open". Each recall shows NHTSA's summary and the remedy. Tap Read on nhtsa.gov for the full notice.
Recall checks are part of Carlore Free.
When you're offline
Carlore keeps the last result, with its date. If NHTSA can't be reached, you'll see "Couldn't reach NHTSA. Your last check from Sep 20 is shown." Try Check now again later.
Mark a recall done
After the dealer does the work, open the recall and mark it done, with the date, like "Done at the dealer on Oct 3". It stays on the vehicle's recall list, marked done.
Hear about new recalls
If you schedule recall checks for a vehicle, Carlore tells you when a new one appears: "A recall was published for the Outback. Read it in Recalls." It only checks when you've asked it to.
Warranties
Open the vehicle and tap Warranties, then +. A warranty holds:
- its name, like "Powertrain" or "Battery",
- the provider,
- what it covers,
- when it ends, by date, by mileage, or both,
- its papers,
- a reminder before it ends.
Warranties show on the Due tab as they near their end, so you can get that rattle looked at while it's still covered. A mileage end uses the same estimate as tasks, so it says "about". See Due and tasks.
Warranty papers count toward a vehicle's handover readiness, and go in the package for the next owner. See Handover.
