Borrower guide

Make a short guide for someone driving your vehicle, with what to know, what not to do and who to call, after a privacy review.

Lending the car to a teen for the weekend, or the truck to a friend for a move? A borrower guide tells them what they need to know, so they don't have to call you from the gas station.

Who it's for

A borrower guide is for one person, with dates if you like, like "For Maya · Oct 4 to Oct 6". Open the vehicle and tap Borrower guide, then add their name.

What goes in

  • What to know: the fuel type, the tire pressure, how the key works, where the insurance card is, and any quirks. Carlore suggests the notes and quirks you've marked Household, like "The rear hatch sticks in the cold. Lift the handle twice."
  • The rules: no towing, regular fuel only, no smoking, no off-roading, return with a full tank, and anything else you add.
  • Who to call: roadside assistance, the insurer's claims line and you.

Check the preview as you go. It's exactly what they'll see.

The privacy review

Before the guide is made, Carlore shows what it will include, like "The guide includes 5 household notes, the insurer's name and the claims number." Nothing marked Owner only ever goes in, and neither do costs or the VIN.

To add something, change that note's privacy level to Household. To leave something out, turn it off in the guide or make it Owner only. See Privacy levels.

Make the guide

Tap Make the guide. Carlore makes it on your phone as a PDF or an image, and you'll see "Borrower guide ready." Send it with your phone's share sheet, by message or email.

Nothing passes through Carlore. The guide is a file you send, and it stays wherever you send it.
