Privacy levels

Every record in Carlore is Owner only, Household or Transferable, which decides who sees it and what leaves with a guide or a handover.

Every record in Carlore carries a privacy level. It decides who can see it and what may leave your garage in a borrower guide, a household file or a handover package.

The three levels

  • Owner only: for you alone. A record marked Owner only never goes in a borrower guide or a handover package. Costs are the one thing you can choose to include, as below.
  • Household: for you and the one person you share your garage with. Household notes can go in a borrower guide, and service entries at this level still go in a handover, because they're the vehicle's story.
  • Transferable: part of the vehicle itself. It goes with the vehicle in a handover package, to the next owner.

The defaults

Carlore starts every record at a sensible level, so you rarely need to think about it:

  • Vehicle identity and specs: Transferable. They go in a handover; a borrower guide uses the specs.
  • Service entries: Household. They go in a handover, without the cost unless you include it.
  • Costs: Owner only. They stay out of a handover unless you turn on Include costs.
  • Papers: the numbers on a paper are Owner only, and the images are Household. Only papers you mark Transferable go in a handover. A borrower guide shows the insurance card only if it's marked for the Glovebox.
  • Notes and quirks: Owner only. Only notes you mark Household go in a borrower guide, and they never go in a handover.
  • Borrower guide and Glovebox fields: Household.
  • Manuals: Transferable, so the next owner gets them too.

For your household, you choose whether costs, notes and the numbers on your papers are shared. See Household.

Change a privacy level

Every editor in Carlore has privacy chips near the bottom: Owner only, Household and Transferable. Tap one to change it.

For the vehicle itself, open it, tap …, then Change privacy.

The privacy review

Before Carlore makes a borrower guide or a handover package, it shows a privacy review: what will be included and what stays with you, like "Nothing marked Owner only, no costs, no VIN." Read it, change a level if something's not right, then go ahead.

Carlore checks every guide and package against these levels as it makes them. A record marked Owner only is left out every time.

What privacy levels aren't

Privacy levels decide what goes into what you share. They don't hide anything from you on your own phone. To keep your garage from anyone who picks up your phone, turn on app lock. See Account, support and legal.
